About Canada | Facts | Education System | Why Canada? | Cost | Colleges | Universities | Student Direct Scheme (SDS)

SPP (Student Partner Program) has been replaced by SDS (Study Direct Stream) in India w.e.f. 8th JUN 2018.

It is a good news for eligible students as it will speed-up the visa processing time & offer vast options compared to SPP. Students who are NOT eligible under SDS can still apply under General Category.

Major changes under SDS:

  • Study in any post-secondary Designated Learning Institute (DLI), such as a college, trade or technical school, university or CEGEP, unlike SPP; under which there were limited institutions.
  • IELTS test result with a minimum band of 6 or higher for each ability (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking), compared to 5.5 under SPP.
  • Pay first year of tuition fees upfront, compared to minimum ONE semester fee under SPP.

Here is the link for the Official SDS India Checklist & Eligiblity criteria

NOTE: If you have received offer letters from SPP institutions with 5.5 in any module and/or you have paid only ONE semester tuition fee but till now your visa application is NOT submitted then DO NOT submit such visa applications to Canadian High Commission under SPP now.
